A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Indira Colony, Sagar on Thursday evening.

The officer, Yashwant Singh Thakur (59), a state police service (SPS) officer, was reportedly disturbed over his departmental inquiry. However, no officer has confirmed it.

Thakur was posted at Anusuchit Jati/Janjati Kalyan (AJK) police station. He was due to retire in 2015.

According to information, Thakur's family resides at Deori tehsil of Sagar district. In Sagar, he lived alone in a rented house. Around 4.30pm, a girl, who had come to deliver the tiffin, saw that Thakur had hanged himself by a ceiling fan. The girl informed the neighbours who rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Senior officials and family members reached the spot soon after the incident. The post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the suicide.

ASP DR Tenewar said the preliminary investigation suggests that it is clearly a case of suicide. However, the police didn't find any suicide note from the spot. Tenewar also denied any kind of departmental inquiry against Thakur.
