The Wedding Café is one of those stereotypical places immortalised by ads and music videos where dating couples share numerous glasses of wine and glance lovingly at each other for hours.
Heavily embroidered lehengas in kaleidoscopic colours are on display in the adjoining store, clashing directly with the subtle white and gold interiors of the restaurant. There is also a private dining area, which is flush with corny candy-pink lights, complete with large photographs of newly-wed couples adorning the walls.
At first look, the stewards, in their all-white attire look like they’re all paying homage to the actor, Jeetendra. The managers with their white suits and peach shirts look even quainter.
Among starters, the non-veg Tapaz Platter (Rs 375) is a delight with lamb meatballs, herb-seared chicken, prawns, calamari and mushrooms. While the melt-in-your-mouth meatballs turn out to be the best we’ve tasted, the chicken could have done with a little more flavour. The Eggplant Parmigiano (Rs 200) is comforting with its triple layers of cheese and basil topping.
For the main course, we opted for the Hungarian Goulash, (R 350), a stew with delicately flavoured gravy and succulent chunks of lamb. A must try for meat lovers. Vegetarians wouldn’t regret Cottage Cheese with Cajun Spice and Lady Finger Ratatouille, (Rs 325) either; in fact the Ratatouille is enjoyable with its mixture of fresh veggies. For dessert, try the Tropical Fruit Salad (R 225), and the sugary Dutch Truffle Cake, (Rs 175), for those who have an extra sweet tooth.
Even though The Wedding Café lacks colour and character, try it out for the great variety it offers in its food. If you’re a continental cuisine freak, here’s the place to go to. It also hosts a singles’ night every Wednesday; and offers to-be brides and grooms travel packages.
