ACTING had never been on top of her career-options’ list. A travelling buff, Reena Kapoor was high on adventure and even considered becoming a full time tourist guide to explore the world. But destiny had its way—and her interest charted her course to the small screen where she’s presently playing the lead in Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki.

“I take everything in life as it comes and just go with my instincts. The only thing is job satisfaction, which I am getting on the small screen. The role should have something to perform,” says Reena. Acting just happened for her. Reena and a friend went to an audition for a DD telefilm Lavina by ace-director Lekh Tandon. Fortunately, she was selected while her friend who accompanied her failed to make it. No looking back since then.

Small or big roles, Reena has been sailing fine. She’s played a range of characters in serials CID, Dishaein, Dekho Magar Pyar Se and Jai Ganga Maiya.

Soaps give her more satisfaction. “In soaps you live in reality, but in serials based on mythology, one has to first imagine those characters and act accordingly.”

Taking about her role in WRWMK aired on Sahara One she says, “It’s very much a family serial and I am loving my role in it. But it did not come easily. There were series of auditions but once I was selected, everything went on very smooth as Rajshree Productions (Barjatyas) people know how to take work.”

“Rani my screen name is much similar to me,” she says adding, “But Rani is not 100 per cent Reena. Though, her family values, upbringing and her self-respect all match to my quality but reel life is different to real life.”

Marriage and the serial came her way together. “As I got engaged I auditioned for the serial. And, at each stage my husband (then fiancée) was there. My in-laws and he were always supporting me.”

Last year she got married to IT professional Karan Nijhar on February 15 and four days later, she was back shooting in Mumbai.

But does she regret getting married so early? “No, my husband is very cooperative. Due to shooting I have to stay in Mumbai and they all are in Delhi but everyone understands it. Both are building career so this demands some extend of adjustment. Moreover, we are mentally compatible and why not?” she makes a point.

Reena is not striving for Bollywood roles but her dream role is Rani’s role in Black and Sridevi’s role in Sadma. “I was getting offers before I signed this mega serial but as of now I have signed a contract, they faded away. Now, first let my contract end then if some good roles come I will consider,” says Reena who was in city as a part of shopping festival at Sahara Ganj.
