india Updated: Dec 09, 2006 18:08 IST

RAISING SLOGANS of “Har Har Mahadev,” devotees on Friday took out the “1100 Shivlinga Shivganga Mahayatra” to Jhabua from the City. The endeavour to install 1100 Shivlingas and build 1100 ponds and 1100 Gaushalas (cow shelters) in Jhabua region has been undertaken with the blessings of Swami Avdeshanand Giri Maharaj.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad secretary Hukumchand Sawla and MLA Laxman Singh Gaud conducted puja and flagged off the “Mahayatra” from Dusshera Maidan on Friday morning. The Hind Rakshak Samiti had recently organised a religious discourse at the same venue as part of this endeavour.

Swami Avdeshanand Giri Maharaj accepted the greetings of devotees at Mhow Naka and threw flowers at the Shivlingas. Devotees riding on four-wheelers passed through Biyabani, Malganj, Loharpatti, Rajwada and reached Madhumilan Chouraha where thousands of people led by former corporator Kailash Yadav and Gangaram Yadav greeted the Shivlingas.

The cavalcade then reached Sapna Sangeeta Road via Chhawni where another welcome ceremony was organised. Finally, the procession reached Jhabua via Rau and Pithampur. Throughout its 190-km long journey, the procession was greeted at a number of points.

Mayor Dr Umashashi Sharma, MLA Usha Thakur, corporators and other prominent persons of the city were also part of the procession.
