Dharmendra hat-trick in Sonipat win

DHARMENDRA?S HAT-trick led Sonipat register its second thumping victory at the All India Inter SAI Hockey Tournament played at SAI Centre, Bishenkhedi on Thursday. In the other matches, Army Boys and Bhopal were winners.

DHARMENDRA’S HAT-trick led Sonipat register its second thumping victory at the All India Inter SAI Hockey Tournament played at SAI Centre, Bishenkhedi on Thursday. In the other matches, Army Boys and Bhopal were winners.

The balanced team of Northern Region Sonipat maintained their winning rhythm on the second day. After defeating North Eastern Region 5-1 in the first match on Wednesday,

Sonipat improved its scoreboard against Gandhinagar. After beating Gandhinagar 9-1, the Sonipat team had made its intention clear of winning the tournament. Dharmendra scored the first hat trick of the tournament.

The second match played between Army Boys and Bangalore, however, saw a close contest of sticks. Though Army Boys dominated the first half after scoring two fabulous goals, the pace was not displayed in the rest of the game. Riyazuddin and Rahul Yadav scored the goal for Army Boys.

Bangalore that opened the account in the second half demonstrated its skill but failed to save the match. Failure of not converting number of close opportunities saw them losing the match 1-2. Chinappa scored the only goal for the losing side.

After Sonipat, hosts Bhopal repeated their performance by defeating Imphal 11-1 and improving its scoreboard. Yuddhvir scored five goals for the team.

The last match between Kolkata and Patiala ended in a draw with the score reading 1-1.
