Sania-ShoaibHyderabad...and the rest of the country is abuzz with news that Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik got married in a sudden and private nikaah ceremony last night. When HT City tried to dig deeper, conflicting reports and versions emerged, with some saying the wedding has happened, and others sticking to the originally announced wedding date, April 15. We bring you all the theories that kept everyone hooked.

Yes
TV channels ran breaking news that the sports stars got married in a private ceremony on Friday evening. Azmathullah Jafri, the Qazi solemnising the wedding, told HT City, “Yes the wedding is happening tonight (Friday), but I can’t give you any details.” Sources said, 80 members from both families attended the nikaah at Sania’s Hyderabad residence. The theory was further supported by the fact that Shoaib’s family members arrived in Hyderabad a week before the announced wedding date, with his brother giving a statement to Pak media saying they have to rush to India to be in time for the wedding.

No
From Sania’s business associates to Shoaib’s cricketer friends, from Sania’s ‘bridesmaid’ actress Rakshanda Khan to Shoaib’s trousseau designer Nikhil Mehra, denials that the wedding has already happened came thick and fast. Singer Talat Aziz, who is supposed to perform at the wedding also denied it, with his wife Bina telling HT City, “My husband and I have not even left for Hyderabad yet, so there is no question of him having performed at the wedding.” When asked if the wedding has taken place, Sania’s aunt Hamida said, “No”.

Maybe
With Shoaib staying at Sania’s house for the past week, and TV cameras capturing the couple kissing, speculation was rife that the they are already married. Another source said, “The couple got married in Dubai 10 days ago and the public ceremony last night was just a formality.” The fact that Sania stood by Shoaib even while the controversial talaq took place adds more weight to this theory.
