FORMER CHIEF minister and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh announced that he would not fight the next Assembly election but advised party activists to shun faction politics if they wished to come to power again.
He was addressing a well-attended farmers’ convention at Nazarali Mill compound here on Monday. Although the event was publicised as Panch-Sarpanch congregation, various leaders tried their best to display their strength both in number of supporters and vehicles.
Without naming Ajay Singh, who was sharing the dais, Digvijay declared that they have to fight elections to rule the State. Singh charged the BJP Government with failure in providing electricity and urea to farmers and instead slapping unreasonable bills.
He said the urea crisis was created, as the State Government did not transport adequate urea to villages in advance.
He said the Congress would provide free electricity to farmers if it came to power and initiate an inquiry into the police cases lodged against them over power bill dues would be initiated.
Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria, Ajay Singh, Radhakishan Malviya, Premchand Guddu and others also addressed the gathering. Earlier, Singh was accorded warm welcome by different leaders at welcome stages erected on the route.
