Dilip Sonawane wins Nasik Teachers' seat

Prof Dilip Sonawane, a rebel candidate who was denied ticket by the Teachers' Democratic Front (TDF), has won the Nasik Teachers' Constituency for Maharashtra Legislative Council, the result of which was declared on Monday night.

Sonawane, who polled 13,443 votes, defeating his nearest rival Nana Boraste (TDF), supported by Cong-NCP, who got 7,448 votes.

He wrested the seat from sitting MLC Nanasaheb Boraste by winning it with a margin of 5,995 votes, official sources said.

Other candidates in fray were Vishnu Nikam of Shiv Sena and Prakash Sonawane of Shikshak Parishad.
