A disgruntled employee of a pistons and rings company hit senior officials, including a woman, with an iron rod after an altercation in Ghaziabad on Friday. The incident happened in the premises of Sriram Pistons and Rings Limited, located on Meerut Road in Ghaziabad.

The two senior employees suffered head injuries and were rushed to a private hospital and their condition is said to be stable. The worker, identified as Chandra Singh, was overpowered by company officials and handed over to the police.

Singh’s supervisor had asked him to do some work, which he refused. Later, he was summoned by the two senior officials — deputy manager Sarvendra Singh and section engineer Garima Saxena — for an explanation.

Soon, an altercation broke out between him and the two senior officials after which Singh hit them, police said.

“Out of frustration, Singh picked up an iron rod and hit his two senior officials. The incident happened in the premises of the unit,” the unit’s general manager (administration) KK Sharma told Hindustan Times.

Though stable, the two senior officials have received stitches and are currently recuperating in the hospital.

Although the senior management admitted that the incident took place inside the unit premises, they denied any labour unrest.

“The incident took place after some personal comments were exchanged between the three people. No company matter was behind the incident. Singh is a temporary worker and will face disciplinary action. Our union and staff have cordial relations and this is just a stray incident,” Sharma added.

VS Yadav, station officer of the Sihani-Gate police station, where the accused is currently lodged, said that investigation was already under way into the incident. “We will lodge an appropriate case against the accused,” Yadav added.
