Dismiss Govt over MLA murder: Cong

india Updated: Oct 23, 2006 15:09 IST

TOP State Congress leaders, while expressing shock over brutal murder of Kishorilal Verma, BJP MLA from Pandhana in Khandwa district, and his wife, said on Sunday that the incident shows the law and order situation in the State has collapsed.

Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Jamuna Devi called on Governor Dr Balram Jakhar and demanded his intervention in the light of deteriorating law & order situation. She said that groups and outfits allied to the ruling BJP were contributing in worsening the law & order situation and it gives a solid ground to the Governor to ‘dismiss’ Shivraj Singh Chouhan Government.

She further said that intense power struggle among the State BJP leaders and their ‘lust’ for money, which has made them rival of each other to grab contracts, sharing spoils of power and amass wealth by any means, has also contributed to spurt in such incidents. Though motive behind Verma’a murder was not yet clear, it seems the incident was spurred by such reasons only, she said.

Jamuna Devi submitted a list of 20 MLAs to the Governor, presented in the State Assembly by the government in response to Congress MLA Rajesh Patel’s question, who have either been attacked or threatened during the BJP regime, and said when MLAs were so vulnerable during the present dispensation, condition of common masses could well be understood.
