‘Divorced’ for 10 years, and didn’t know it
Meena says that she and her husband Virendar come to know of their “divorce” when they move court in connection with another land dispute, reports Devendra Uppal.india Updated: Jun 04, 2008 02:33 IST
“To grab family property, my husband’s elder brother not only forged documents of our divorce but also produced a fake couple in the court,” says Meena Verma.
Meena says that she and her husband Virendar came to know of their “divorce” a good 10 years later and that too only when they moved court in connection with another land dispute. “Since 1989, we have been together. We have two children. We have never been separated,” says Virendar. “I have never been to court and never met anyone for a divorce. Our family was shocked to learn about it,” insists Meena.
The Vermas have petitioned the court against Virendar’s brother Surinder and the next hearing has been fixed for July 19. Their lawyer Ajay Bansal says that some persons have obviously hatched a conspiracy to effect a divorce between his clients by filing fake documents and producing fake persons.
Surinder, however, told HT on phone that he is being falsely implicated and is not behind the divorce.
