Uttar Pradesh Education department has announced Diwali bonanza for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe students of primary schools across the State. One topper from SC/ST category from each class between I to 5 will be rewarded, according to Ashok Ganguty, additional state project director of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

Five lakh SC/ST students of the State from one-lakh primary schools will be benefited.

Topper students of Class I and II will get stationery worth Rs 35 while topper SC/ST students from Class 3 to 5 would get a school bag worth Rs 80 and stationery of Rs 20. The scheme will incur a cost of Rs 3.9 crore each year.

The topper student will be selected on the performance of students on the basis of their performance in the first terminal examinations that usually take place in September. *Education department officials said SC/ST students will be extremely benefited from this scheme. A copy of the order has been issued to all Basic
