Decorative diyas, puja thalis, hand-embroidered bedsheets and torans were major attractions.  The exhibition was organised to encourage them in their creative efforts as well as help them develop marketing skills, student advisor Dr Kirti Jain said.

Sathya Sai to hold NSS camp
SHRI SATHYA Sai College for Women (BHEL) will organise an NSS camp from November 2 to 11 at village Shobhapur on Kolar Road, 22 km from the college. About 50 to 60 students along with NSS programme officers Dr Shriji and Darshan will stay in the village for the period and work under the project ‘Swasth Yuva’. They will organise vaccination for hepatitis B and haemoglobin test for villagers. Medicines will be prescribed and diet suggested for the affected.
Students will address villagers and provide tips on cleanliness, health, hygiene and education. They will also plant trees and create environment consciousness. Experts from Family Planning Association (FPA) will be invited to provide further guidance to villagers.

BUIT holds sports week
UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE of Technology, Barkatullah University (BUIT) held a sports week from October 11 to 18. Intra-college competitions of several outdoor and indoor games including badminton, cricket, basketball, table tennis and chess were organised.

All departments including that of information technology (IT), mechanical, electronics and computer science and engineering (CSE) took part in the sports events.

BUIT will hold an orientation programme for careers in IT on November 1. Students from various branches of engineering will attend the programme. It will be organised by the department of humanities and management as career planning activity. In the one-day workshop, experts from Intellectual Resources Training and Placement Limited (IRTPL), a Bangalore- based organisation, will interact with students.

Counselling cell at Sant Hirdaram
THE COUNSELLING cell at Sant Hirdaram Girls’ College was opened along with the inception of the college in June this year. The cell has now started functioning as a permanent platform, which solves students’ problems throughout the year, counsellor Ashita Shah said. Students can bring forth doubts regarding choice of course/ career, problems regarding academics, extra-curricullar activities, college timings and personal/stress related problems. Besides providing guidance to students regarding the choice of course, the cell also did B. Ed counselling at Subhash School in June.

Attractions at youth festival 
THE STATE-level youth festival organised by the Barkatullah University (BU) will host some attractive events on Saturday. Students from different parts of the State will take part in rangoli competition and solo classical instrumental competition (both percussion and non-percussion category) from 10 am on October 28 at Gyan Vigyan Bhavan, while on the same day they will participate in ‘Prashna-manch’ and cartoon-making contest at Samaj Vigyan Bhavan, BU.
