A doctor arrested on charges of raping his junior was on Wednesday remanded to police custody till July 14 by a local court.

Rahul Singh Deswal, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at St George Hospital in south Mumbai, was arrested on Tuesday after a junior doctor accused him of raping her on many occasions during the last eight to ten months on the pretext of marrying her.

The prosecution said Deswal had allegedly clicked obscene pictures of the victim after raping her and had threatened to make them public if she told anyone about the incident.

Deswal's computer and mobile phone are among the items sent to the city's forensic science laboratory for tests and the reports are expected soon, the prosecution said.

The Magistrate asked Deswal whether he had clicked any obscene pictures to which the doctor said, "No".

The prosecution sought the doctor's police custody for 14 days in order to interrogate him regarding any other obscene photographs that he may have taken of the girl.

However, the court sent him to judicial custody only till July 14.

The complainant, a 22-year-old medical student, in her complaint alleged that Deswal had raped her multiple times in
the past ten months and despite promising to marry her had refused to do so, police officials said.
