THE QUEUE at the Regional Employment Exchange office seems to be increasing with each passing day, especially after Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav handed over unemployment allowance cheques at a much-hyped ceremony in the State capital recently.

The enthusiasm to grab the CM’s largesse increased manifold after the media reported successful distribution of unemployment allowance all over the State.

Meanwhile, speculation about the distribution of the allowance to the youths who got themselves registered before June 30 is also rife in the city. While about 20000 unemployed graduates got themselves registered by February end, their number is increasing rapidly as over 1000 new registrations are being made each day at the Regional Employment Exchange Office.

Ajit Kumar, one such unemployed youth, said, “Initially I though that the entire exercise is just a gimmick and vote politics of the State government. But when the CM himself handed out the cheques to youths in a grand ceremony in the State capital I decided to get myself registered.”
