Marlon Brando?s character of Don Vito Corleone in the screen classic The Godfather has been named UK?s favourite screen gangster.

Actor Marlon Brando’s character of Don Vito Corleone in the screen classic The Godfather has been named UK’s favourite screen gangster in a new poll by Universal Pictures UK.

Brando’s performance in the 1972 movie beat out competition from Al Pacino’s portrayal of Tony Montana in the movie Scarface, which came in second.

Robert De Niro attained the third position for his performance as Al Capone in the film The Untouchables.

The top five positions were rounded off by Jules Winnfield played by Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, and Nicky Santoro played by Joe Pesci in Casino, Contactmusic reports.

The top five favourite screen gangsters according to the poll:

1. Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) - The Godfather (1972)

2. Tony Montana (Al Pacino) - Scarface (1983)

3. Al Capone (Robert De Niro) - The Untouchables (1987)

4. Jules Winnfield (Samuel L Jackson) - Pulp Fiction (1994)

5. Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) - Casino (1995).
