Don?s terror ways: Kin speak out

india Updated: Oct 30, 2006 01:13 IST

MAFIA DON-TURNED-POLITICIAN Aruna Shanker Shukla ‘Anna’ is not only a terror in Daliganj but also at home. Shiv Kumari Shukla, bhabhi of Anna, is contesting civic elections from Ward No 56 (Daliganj) against SP candidate Jyoti Shukla, who happens to be the don’s daughter-in-law.

Family members allege that Anna has even threatened his Bhabhi with dire consequences if she tried to defeat Jyoti. Anil Shukla, son of Shiv Kumari Shukla and nephew of Anna says, “Anna is a name of terror not only outside but in our house too. Although we live in the same house. But, we don’t share similar values. He is nobody’s man.”

No wonder that even the police are scared of doing their duty if it means action against the don.

He openly threatens the opposition candidates, supporters and residents with dire consequences if they refuse to support the SP candidate in the area. One of the traders who was recently beaten up by him said, “I was threatened by Anna and his bodyguards to stay away from supporting a non-SP candidate.”

“Hardly two years ago, Anna grabbed a park in the area. He forged documents and produced registry of the park from nowhere. He abused additional municipal commissioner in the presence of hundreds of residents and policemen. He is very powerful he enjoys good proximity to the chief minister,” says a resident of Triveni Nagar.

Senior Vice President of Daliganj Triveni Nagar Vyapar Mandal Amarnath Agarwal says, “Even the police side with the baddies. It’s a shame. Instead of protecting us from Anna, the police harass us. I am being constantly threatened by a Hasanganj sub inspector as I am not supporting the SP candidate. But, we have decided to confront the mafia and not bow to his diktats.”

“Daughter-in-law of Anna’s brother is contesting the elections this year. Anna’s nephews are already being tried under the Ashiana rape case. We have kept silent over the bhabhi of a rapist contesting the elections but now with the deeds of Anna, we feel there should be some law to stop such candidates from contesting, whose relatives are criminals,” says a resident of the area on the condition of anonymity.

General secretary of Daliganj Triveni Nagar Vyapar Mandal, Anand Kishore says, “Traders compromise on   some issues as they can’t afford to fight. But, if mafia’s like Anna are going to get the patronage by the politicians then we will also have to come out in the open and take the fight to roads.”.

Atul Jain, a trader leader of Daliganj, who was manhandled by Anna says, “We are constantly living under Anna fear. Bashing by Anna and his men has given me more strength to stand up against the mafiasm.”

BSP-supported candidate Reshma Bano and her husband M Naeem were also threatened by Anna and his goons. Talking to HT Lucknow Live Naeem says, “Anna threatened us to close our office at a place but we have to live with it. It’s for the public to give such goons a fitting reply.”
