AUTO-mafia don’s wife sought High Court’s intervention alleging that her husband was ‘kidnapped’ by the cops who demanded Rs 4 lakh as bribe.

The move left the cops unnerved as the High Court directed the SSP to lodge an FIR against the erring cops. It all began with the Ghazipur police reportedly catching two auto-lifters a few days ago and showed their arrest on Wednesday.

The cops claimed that  they had recovered a Maruti car and Rs 4 lakh from the possession of the accused. But, the wife of the main accused filed a petition in High Court on Wednesday alleging that the cops had kidnapped her husband several days back and were trying to frame him up in a fake case. The court ordered the SSP to get a case registered against the erring cops.

However, the cops claimed that they arrested kingpin of inter-state auto-lifters Sanjiv Pandey alias Chunmun Pandey of Ardali Bazar, Varanasi on a tip off. The police arrested Pandey while he was driving in a Maruti car (UP 65 AB-6786) near GTI crossing.

Pandey’s associate Shehnawaz Ahmed of Mohammadabad, Ghazipur too was trapped moving in the same car. The car reportedly was a stolen one.

The cops interrogated Pandey to know that he was orchestrating the gang of auto-lifters in coordination with his associates based in Mumbai, Bihar and UP.

Pandey’s brothers Yaduvendra, Satish and Sanjay too were involved in the same trade and used to play a vital role in stealing and disposing of the vehicles.

The police further claimed that Pandey’s Mumbai-based associates were identified as Nahid, Nabbu, Ishtiyaq and Khurshid while those active in UP were Majid alias Sahil, Dilip, Shivji and Kamlesh.

While the cops were quizzing the accused, Pandey’s wife sought intervention of the court on Wednesday alleging that her husband was kidnapped by the cops. She also alleged that the cops had taken a ‘bribe’ of Rs 4 lakh and jewellery to release her husband but the latter was yet to be freed.

The court ordered the SSP to get an FIR lodged into the matter and initiate action against the erring policemen.

However, the accused arrested were sent to jail.
