New Year

As you get ready to party hard and usher in the New Year, just remember to be a responsible citizen by not indulging in drunk driving. Interestingly, more than 500 people were challaned by Delhi Police last New Year’s eve for drunk driving.

So, this year, aim to drink responsibly. Here are some ways in which one can do that.

Hire a chauffeur or ensure that the group you are partying with has someone who isn’t drinking and can drive you back home safely. “People are becoming conscious, and we have started getting bookings. This year, lots of pubs and clubs have also taken bookings for chauffeurs from us. We have also kicked off a campaign called — Respect the Road with the Gurgaon Traffic Police to prevent drunk driving,” says Nikhil Saigal, director, Home Safe, which provides drivers to partygoers.

With pubs and clubs tying up with chauffeur and cab providers, party revellers have also an option of making prior arrangements of being dropped off. Partygoers can also avail the facility of radio cabs. Special cabs for ladies, driven by women drivers, are also another option for women out partying till late.

“We have put up on the notice boards that people should not drive after consuming liquor. We also provide cab facilities to those who are in no position to drive. Our managers are also there to drop women to their homes safely,” says Samir Chawla of pub Blues in Connaught Place.

Delhi traffic police is on a special drive, which will start on New Year’s Eve at 10pm and go on till the wee hours of the morning. Areas around major pubs and clubs will have more police to catch hold of offenders. So, this New Year’s eve, respect the road and be safe.

Party safely on New Year’s eve
Make a plan before you start partying, as to how you will get back home. You can hire a radio taxi to go back home. Women can avail the facility of Sakha Cabs, which is a car hire service for women driven by female drivers.

Ensure that the person who plans to drive remains sober and doesn’t drink.

It’s a good idea to book a room and stay back in the hotel in which you are partying.

Do not leave your drinks unattended, else someone might just spike your drinks. Women should ensure that their drinks are poured in front of them.
