From next year on you may not mind being spotted boarding a bus in the Capital. If you do it now, that is. Thanks to the Delhi government’s proposed idea of introducing specially-designed double-decker buses in time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Not only tourists but aam janta, too, will be able to enjoy a ‘bird’s eye view’ of the city sitting in these buses. HT City quizzed Delhiites for reactions.

More mess
I think they’ll be good to look at, but practically it will mean one more ‘big’ addition on the road. Then there’ll probably have to be another lane for it, and if not, it would definitely result in a big jam every time the bus stops to pick or drop passengers.

The look of buses has already changed. They are no longer filthy and over-crowded. I take a bus to my institute in KG Marg daily, so I think it will be nice, especially for me, if the double-decker bus hits the city. As I spend nearly two hours commuting by bus everyday, I’ll at least have a good time sitting on the upper berth.

Can’t wait
I’ve always wanted to go to Mumbai and travel in a double-decker bus. But I’m glad that it may happen in my own city soon. Though I don’t remember the last time I sat in a bus, I’ll be a regular if the double-decker buses hit our roads.

What about the ticket?
The fare, I’m sure, is going to be way too high than the regular buses. Aur ab toh waise bhi bus ka kiraya badh gaya hai. Besides, I think the double-decker will only add to the traffic woes.
