A CASE of dowry harassment has been registered against a serving Major and his family on the complaint registered with the Mhow police by the Major’s wife on Saturday.
As per Mhow Kotwali TI Ashok Rangshahi, 27-year old Vaijyanti Sahu registered a complaint against her husband Sapnesh Sahu, father-in-law Parasram, mother-in-law Sajal Bai and brother-in-laws Tapnesh and Tarunesh.
In her complaint she stated that ever since their marriage in June, 2005 she has been harassed in one form or the other. She said the family members misbehaved with her, ill-treated her even in front of guests and caused mental and physical consternation.
Recently her problems multiplied when the family members started harassing her for bringing in Rs one lakh cash. Major Sahu hailing from the Signal Corps and residing on Denis Road, Mhow is presently undergoing a Signal Officer Degree Engineer (SODE) course at military College of Training and Engineering (MCTE).
Locals admit that tension was brewing between the couple who also have a child. Recently the parents of the Major had arrived from Noida and started living with their son when the problem compounded and things took a turn for the worse.
It is learnt that the approach of Vaijyanti Sahu to the police station at 11.30 am created quite a scene as a large number of military men keen on keeping military life away from public scrutiny tried to convince her to return home and not file a report.
However, after the complaint was formally launched the police have registered a case against the five accused under 498-a, 506, and (3), (4) of the IPC Act.
