THANKS TO dazzling batting performances by Vikrant Singh and Shreyas Singh, the Delhi Public School (DPS) registered a thumping 210-run win in the inaugural match of the Dr Govind Narayan Singh memorial inter-school cricket carnival that began at the Old Campion grounds on Sunday.
The long awaited demand of the inter-school cricket tournament of good standard met on Sunday with the inauguration of the tournament. Winning the toss, skipper Aditeshwar Singhdeo had no hesitation in batting first against Satyam Convent School. Capitalising on the good batting track, the opening pair Vikrant Singh and Shreyas Singh scored on every corner of the ground.
Such was the resistance free batting by both the batsmen that they started scoring runs from the very first delivery. The ruthless batting of Vikrant and Shreyas could be gauged from the fact that they scored 21 boundaries and 10 sky rocketing sixes in the stipulated 30 overs.
Scoring his first unbeaten century of the match, Vikrant completed 109 runs off 106 deliveries that included 16 boundaries and four sixes.
In the flawless innings, he entertained the spectators. Providing a good support to Vikrant, Shreyas Singh also scored runs without any problem. His support to Vikrant was such that he not only rotated the strike but also scored boundaries on every bad delivery. However, he was not lucky like his partner as he lost his wicket for 97 runs scored from 84 deliveries. The partnership stitched 231-run partnership, which is a record at the Old Campion grounds for the first wicket. With their good partnership, the DPS set 238 runs target.
Interestingly, Satyam skipper used eight bowlers. Prince was the only successful bowler with one wicket. Replying to the mammoth target with an asking rate of almost eight runs per over, Satyam Convent was all out for a paltry 27 runs including four extra runs in ten overs.
Rishi Loya and Kapil Gurwani scalped two wickets each. Skipper Aditeshwar Singhdeo, Shreyas Singh and Rajat claimed one wicket each. Happy skipper Aditeshwar said that his team’s good show would continue in the following matches also. “We will reach the final”, he said.
Earlier, chief guest former bureaucrat MN Buch inaugurated the carnival. In his address, he extended his good wishes to the participating teams. State election commissioner AV Singh, former DGP M Natrajan, Bhopal Divisional Cricket Association (BDCA) chairman Dhruv Narayan Singh, organising committee secretary Aruneshwar Singhdeo, BDCA secretary Dr Shafquat Mohammad Khan, Hamidullah Khan ‘Mamu’, MLA Harsh Singh, former Mandi Board chairman Ashok Singh, Siddharth Singh, treasurer Arun Tyagi, Rajiv Saxena, Sajid, CS Dhakad, Uttam Thakur organising committee president Vijesh Lunawat and others were present on the occasion.
