A PIQUANT situation unfolded at the fifth floor annexe of the Chief Minister’s secretariat when an IAS officer sat on a dharna to press for a meeting with Chief Minister’s principal secretary Anil Kumar.
IAS officer Vishal Rai said he was a follower of late Raj Narain. Hence, he refused to tolerate any ‘injustice’. Security personnel were on their toes as the news of the IAS officer sitting on dharna reached them.
Many of them tried to convince Rai to sit on the sofa but Rai insisted to sit on the floor of the office of principal secretary to the Chief Minister.
Rai, who has been promoted to the IAS from the PCS, was at present posted as special secretary General Administration Department. Rai had been reportedly making attempts to convince senior officers to change his place of posting.
When Rai failed to get the desired change, he sat on a dharna. Rai said he was not at fault.
He was not a dishonest officer, he said. Rai added he did not have an official vehicle to reach office.
There was hardly any work and he was handling one or two files in a day, said Rai.
Rai’s dharna continued for nearly 15 minutes.
Dipti Vilas, who is secretary to the Chief Minister, tried to convince Rai to accompany him to his chamber. Rai, however, insisted on speaking to Kumar.
Later, Kumar spoke to Rai on telephone and a meeting between was fixed.
Thereafter, Rai ended the dharna.
