With barely a week left for the Commonwealth Games, the deputy director general of Press Operations, Manish Kumar, has been shifted to environment functional area. With some 600 international media expected and with accreditation process in full swing, it was surprising how he was removed from the post. Manjushree Roy of the Press Information Bureau has been asked to take over.

The worst fear is that his entire press operations team has rallied behind him and has threatened to resign. "If that happens, who will take care of the work that will have to be done in a week's time," asked an official. According to sources, Kumar had a problem with the Communications team. When contacted, Manish said he had been asked to step down as DDG but did not want to elaborate.

However, according to insiders, he had an altercation with one of the joint directors of the communication team on issues relating to extra accreditation. The joint director then complained to the Cabinet Secretary of India. The Cabinet Secretary asked chief executive officer, Jarnail Singh, to remove him from the post of DDG, press operations.

Sources said, the OC might take up the matter with authorities concerned.
