Assam, Mizoram and Rajasthan would receive Rs 576 million in the current fiscal from the central government to provide drinking water supply to rural schools.

"Under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP), the ministry of rural development has sanctioned Rs 173 million to ensure coverage of 8,660 rural schools in Assam," a ministry statement said.

"Rs 39 million has been allotted to Mizoram for coverage of 1,986 schools and Rs 360 million for Rajasthan for coverage of 18,156 rural schools."

The funds are to be utilised for execution and completion of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools.

Under the ARWSP, the central government supplements the efforts of state governments in providing drinking water facilities in rural areas by rendering financial assistance and technical support.
