I am planning a trip to the Jim Corbett National Park. I want to know if it is better to fly from Mumbai to Delhi and go by car from there or fly from Mumbai to Lucknow and go by car. I read that the distance from Lucknow to Corbett is 145 km. How’re the roads on this route?
— Balakrishna

The easiest way to reach Corbett is to take an evening flight from Mumbai to Delhi and then take the Ranikhet Express from Delhi to Kathgodam. The train leaves Delhi at 10.40 pm and reaches Kathgodam at 5.20 am.

From Kathgodam, you can take a cab to Corbett. You can stay at the Dhikala Forest Rest House located 20 km inside the national park. It is situated right in the middle of the jungle and takes about two hours to reach. You can book accommodation at any of the Kumaon tourism offices. The distance between Lucknow and Corbett is not 145 km but 433 km. The drive will take approximately 8-9 hours.

How is Lavasa (near Pune) in May and June? I want to visit for two days. Can you suggest some budget hotels?
— Devendra

Lavasa will be rather hot during the day in May/June. There is little to do in Lavasa, except walking by the water at Dasve Lake or trying out water sports. There are not too many options for accommodation in Lavasa and they are all expensive. For meals, you have to visit the in-house restaurants of the hotels, which are exorbitant. We suggest a visit after more development takes place.
