SLOPPY FIELDING by Indore division fielders helped Raipur division score 275/6 on the first day of the three-day Maharaja Yeshwantrao Trophy senior division cricket tournament being played at the Emerald Heights International School grounds on Monday.

The Indore players dropped more than half a dozen catches. The visitors took advantage of this and consolidate their innings.

Indore skipper won the toss and opted to field. His decision yielded fruits as medium pacer Sunil Dholpure got a wicket on the second ball of the innings (0/1).

Both the opening bowlers Sunil Dholpue and Anand Rajan bowled well in the morning and beat the batsmen at regular intervals. Anand was little expensive compared to Sunil but was unlucky as some catches of his bowling were dropped.

Taking advantage of sloppy fielding, Raipur batsmen played well and started scoring freely. Ranji player Jalaj was lucky as Sachin Dholpure dropped him at his individual score of 24.

Jalaj could not capitalise on this opportunity. He lost his wicket after adding just four more runs. He was clean bowled by Sunil Dholpure when he had scored 28 runs.

Raipur lost one more quick wicket. Rishi brought Rajesh Kanojiya from pavilion end and in his second ball he got a wicket when Raipur score was 80. At lunch, the hosts were in good position as they had dismissed four batsmen for 124.

Sudhindra was lucky as he was dropped several times. When he was on 30, once again he was dropped by Gaurav Lashkari dropped him of the bowling of Anand Rajan. Raipur was reeling at 136/5 at that time.

Taking advantage of sloppy fielding, Sudhindra completed his half-century. At the other end, Wazahat Rizvi batted superbly and his strokes were pleasing to watch. He never allowed the bowlers to take upper hand and was blasting the loose balls to the fence at regular intervals.

When Rizvi was on 34, he was dropped by wicket-keeper Naman Ojha (180/5). Sudhindra gave another chance only to be dropped by butter fingured Gaurav Lashkari at his individual score of 69.

Anand Rajan had the last laugh, as he clean bowled Sudhindra when he had scored 83 runs in 193 balls with 12 hits to the fence. After getting a life, Wazahat started playing confidently and completed his half-century.

At the end of the first day’s play, Raipur were sitting pretty at 275/6. Wazahat was batting at 76 with 14 boundaries and Someshwar Rao remained not out on 14. Someshwar too was lucky when he was dropped by Naman Ojha of Anand Rajajn even before he opened his account.

The other scorers are Subaji Bhattacharya (24) and Mujahid Haque (24). Sunil Dholpure, Anand Rajajn and Rajesh Kanojiya took two wickets each for 61, 99, and 50 runs respectively.

Indore have to field well to come back in the game and the first hour of the play will be crucial for the hosts.
