Concerned over the rising drug abuse among youth in Kashmir, chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday called for 'Jihad' to save the future generation from the menace.

"We need to do Jihad against the drug abuse which has reached alarming proportions," Omar said in his Independence Day speech at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.

The chief minister said he was concerned about reports that youth were eating shoe polish and paper fluid to satiate their addiction.

"Let us take a pledge that we will save our children and future generation from the menace of drug abuse," he said.
