Haryana police on Monday night took an ex- army man into custody for allegedly shooting his teenage daughter who died on Sunday in the village of Rewari Khera.

The Police also suspended the village station-in-charge Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for not responding in due time as the family had cremated the body.

The 16-year-old girl identified as Nisha was shot by her father Ratanpal who cremated her body secretly. When Station-in-charge ASI Attar Singh was informed, he did not react. According to the police, at the time of the murder, the suspect was drunk and the body was cremated in a hurry.

Superintendent of police, B Satish Balan, suspended the ASI for his inaction in the case. The SP said that this was not a matter of honour killing but the police had registered a case under section 302 of Indian Penal Code and the investigation had been started. There is lack of clarity on what happened. Police said the parents were fighting and the girl came in between when she was shot.
