A 46-year-old man was arrested early on Thursday on charges of molesting an airhostess in a Dubai to Mumbai flight.
According to the FIR filed with the Sahar police station by the 22-year-old victim, the incident happened in the Emirates Airline flight in the morning hours.
The complainant reportedly told the police that the accused, identified as Harun Salam, who hails from the state’s Jalna district, had consumed alcohol during the flight. “He asked for more drink in his glass. While I was serving him, this man touched me inappropriately and made lewd gestures,” the victim reportedly told the police.
The police said Salam was taken into custody and arrested under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code, for outraging the modesty of a woman.
He was later produced in the Andheri metropolitan court, which granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 7,000, police officers investigating the case said.
Initial investigation revealed Salam is a technician and has been working in the Gulf for three years. He was coming back to his native place on his annual leave.
Police said some of the passengers and flight staff witness to the incident would be questioned and their statements recorded as part of the investigation.
“The accused will be called back for questioning as and when required during the investigation,” said Senior Police Inspector Dilip Patil of the Sahar police.
