Keeping up with the times and to make accessing information easier, Delhi University started its page on social networking site Facebook on Monday.
The university's website
will re-direct students to the official University of Delhi page on the social networking site where students can get information about anything related to the varsity.
On the very first day of its launch, the traffic on the page was quite heavy. By 9:30pm more than 800 students had 'liked' the page and many others had posted questions in the discussion section.
The page is complete with news related to the admission procedure, information bulletin 2011-2012 and provisions under various quotas according to the university guidelines. The page also consists of links to e-open days, videos, photos, events and a link to the university website.
The most popular discussions were about the Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE).
Several queries related to the availability of online admit cards for CATE examination, along with responses from other students were seen. Students also asked several questions regarding the admission process with the absence of any centralised form.
"The page is quite nice. It is a good way to connect with the youth. I just wish we could get answers more quickly," said Reeti Joshi, a student.
University officials and volunteers started to answer students' questions only after 4pm. By that time many other students had already started clearing doubts, albeit not very successfully. Some wrong answers and misinformation were also shared.
The page also contains information on the newly introduced semester system, starting this academic year. There were also numerous requests from students to make the page more user friendly.
Besides undergraduate courses, the page also provides information regarding postgraduate courses.
