After nudging Manipur Governor VK Duggal to resign, the government may ease out Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan as well, sources told HT.
“After Duggal, it might be turn of Narasimhan to be nudged out,” said a source.
Duggal, a former Union home secretary, was looking after the additional charge of Mizoram Raj Bhavan as well. He submitted resignation letter to President Pranab Mukherjee late in the evening on Thursday. He was appointed Governor in December last year.
Though, after resigning Duggal said he quit on his own volition, but sources told HT that home secretary Anil Goswami had called him on Wednesday nudging him to put in his papers.
Before meeting the President, Duggal went to North Block and met Goswami as home minister Rajnath Singh was away in Lucknow.
Duggal is ninth UPA-appointee to put in his paper after being nudged by the home secretary.
Sources say the next Governor to be eased out may be ESL Narasimhan.
After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and successor state of Andhra, Narasimhan, a former Intelligence Bureau chief, is looking after the dual charge of Governor of both the newly formed states.
Narasimhan had first became Governor of Chhattisgarh in January, 2007. He was transferred to Andhra Pradesh in January, 2010. The former IB chief got his second term as Governor of Andhra in May, 2012. In the normal course, his tenure will end on May 2, 2017. He was sworn in as Governor of Telangana on June 2 this year.
