Dukhtaran chief Asiya Andrabi held in Srinagar

Police took Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Syedah Asiya Andrabi along with five other associates into custody. Police said that Asiya and her associates were picked up outside an Internet café at Baba Demb in capital Srinagar when they were herding away a group of young boys and girls who they had captured from the café.
Sources said that the Dukhtaran chief, accompanied by a group of over a score of her associates, raided an Internet café in the locality allegedly for spreading indecency and immorality in the society.
The Dukhtaran activists caught hold of some young boys and girls from there. They ransacked the café and broke the cabins and some furniture.
Sources said that a police team immediately rushed to the spot and “rescued” captured persons. They also took Asiya and five of her associates into custody for ransacking the Internet café.
Police said that the Dukhtaran chief was arrested for taking law into her own hands.
Syedah Asiya Andrabi has been in the forefront of the moral policing campaign in the valley. She was arrested and lodged for three months in jail in 2005 while during her campaign she raided several Internet café’s and hotels in the city.
