To mark the 66th Accession Day of the state, the BJP organised a programme at Maharaja Hari Singh statue, overlooking Tawi Bridge, on Saturday.
The programme started by laying wreaths at the statue after which BJP leaders and workers paid obeisance to Maharaja Hari Singh. Several people also joined the programme, which was organised by Jammu district unit of the BJP under the leadership of its president Rajesh Gupta.
BJP national executive member and leader of the legislature party, Ashok Khajuria, who presided over the function, said it is an irony that while the BJP observes this day at the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh every year, his own family members shy away from doing so and keep themselves busy with other functions.
Khajuria also mocked at Rahul Gandhi for publicly shedding tears over the death of his grandmother and father. He said dynastic rule in New Delhi and in the state is dangerous, which needs to be replaced by parties like BJP with Narendra Modi as prime minister.
BJP national executive member Nirmal Singh said that Act of Independence concluded after long deliberations with unanimous assent by all stakeholders. He said when Pakistan raises question on the accession, its very own existence comes under question.
Shamsher Singh Manhas, BJP national executive member, said people should not get misled by the false propaganda of the NC and silence of the Congress over the accession. He said statements issued by NC leaders are threat to national security.
Manhas added that every nation loving individual should take a pledge on this day to defeat the designs of such forces, which pose a threat to the integration of the state.
BJP leader Hari Om, who was the main speaker on the occasion, narrated the sequence of events, which culminated into signing of the historic Instrument of Accession. He said the issue of accession is being raised time and again just to divert the attention of people from real issues, which speaks of the incompetence of the government in providing a people-friendly administration.
He said the Congress is deliberately creating confusion over the issue for political gains but the BJP will not allow this to happen.
