Electronic Travel Authorisation

Electronic Travel Authorisation (e-Visa) shall be introduced in a phased manner at nine airports in India, finance minister Arun Jaitley has announced. He said the necessary infrastructure will be put in place within the next six months.

“Tourism is one of the largest job creators globally. The e-Visa facility will give a major boost to tourism. The countries to which it will be extended will be identified in a phased manner,” Jaitley said.

“This proposal complements the government’s expansion of the visa on arrival scheme,” Sajid Khan, country manager- India, South African Airways said.

Subhash Goyal, president, Indian Association of Tour Operators added: “This will give a near 40% boost to the tourism industry in the next one-and-half years and create many jobs.”
