The Delhi-Gurgaon access-controlled expressway has become an accident-prone stretch.
Going by the latest data, on an average, nearly 90 vehicles breakdown on the 27.7-km-long road. Vehicles are stranded on various spots on the expressway, endangering the lives of motorists.
Apart from the 150 traffic marshals positioned at various entry and exit points along the expressway and near the toll plazas, a separate team of 140 patrolling members guard the entire length of the expressway around the clock to help commuters in need of help.
Despite this, several accidents are reported from the stretch on a daily basis.
Traffic marshals also risk their lives while trying to help stranded passengers.
To deal with any kind of emergency situation, five ambulances have been deployed on the expressway, said a spokesperson of the expressway concessionaire, Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL).
“Each ambulance has a driver accompanied by a trained paramedic. The ambulance is fully equipped to provide first-aid services and on-the-spot relief,” he added. The patrolling team has three Bolero jeeps, 12 motorcycles, three recovery cranes and one hydra crane, which has been deployed to help commuters.
Walkie-talkies have been given to personnel on patrolling vehicles, cranes and ambulances so that they can keep in touch with each other and the central control room.
DGSCL claimed that assistance reaches the accident site within 10 minutes.
Also, in the absence of proper and adequate transport facilities in the city, thousands of commuters, including women, board private cabs and buses on the expressway while putting their lives at risk.
Rajiv Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Atlas Chowk and Shankar Chowk are the prominent vulnerable spots on the expressway. These are the locations where cabbie gangs were active in the recent past.
