IT WAS examination day for hundreds of BSP leaders, who lined up before the party office on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg here on Thursday.

They were frisked before entering the party office that was converted into a makeshift classroom. Be it a big leader, or common coordinator, all were screened.

At 11 am, party president Mayawati entered the hall. She asked MPs, MLAs, district presidents and coordinators about the preparation for the Vidhan Sabha election.

“The Samajwadi Party Government might go in for early Vidhan Sabha elections. Start preparing for assembly polls, as they might be held in October,” she told the leaders.

“To gear up the party cadre and workers, the party has decided to hold a workers’ rally on June 30. We have to generate resources for the election campaign on our own strength,” she said. The leaders were directed to raise funds for the election campaign and deposit it in the party fund.

The leaders were directed to bring at least 2,000 workers to participate in the rally and to leave no stone unturned to make the rally a grand success.

They were also asked to launch a membership drive and ensure that the party’s ranks swelled before the election. Members of all communities should be included in the ‘bhai- chara committee’, it was said.

“Seventy per cent of the booth committees have been constituted, and the remaining 30 per cent should be set up by July,” she said.
