In today's fast paced life, stress has become something we all learn to live with as a matter of course. Some thrive on it, but for many, stress is a major concern. Much has been written about stress management and many techniques have been tried by organisations to help their employees cope with workplace tensions. Some have succeeded whilst others have not.
So, if you are experiencing workplace stress, here are some easy stress busters you can try for yourself — all you need is 10 minutes of free time. The idea behind all these is to help you relax, unwind and get refreshed…
Focus on your body
Close your eyes and focus on your body parts. Start with your toes and work yourself all the way up to your eyes. Imagine them — how do they feel? Are you comfortable or is some body part aching. If, for example, you are concentrating on your shoulders and you feel a dull ache, adjust your position. Now concentrate again. Does that feel better? Very soon you will find your whole body beginning to relax.
Tense to relax
Close your eyes and put pressure on different parts of your body. For example, clench your fist and hold the tension up to a count of 10. Now slowly relax your fist and let the tension go. Start at your feet and work your way up your body.
This is an excellent relaxer.
It is all in the imagination
Close your eyes and imagine that you are in a calm surrounding. Choose a setting you like, a beach perhaps. Now think of yourself enjoying the surrounds. Your feet embedded in warm sand, the sea breeze cooling your warm body…When you finally open your eyes you will find the stress has just melted away!
The power of the word
Close your eyes and concentrate on the word 'Om', or any other word you choose. Focus all your attention on that word and breathe in and out slowly. The purpose of this is to draw your mind away from the worries of the workplace and help you de-stress.
Music for your soul
Close your eyes and listen to some soothing music. It could be classical, pop or rock whatever grabs your fancy. Most people find it relaxing to listen to certain kinds of music or nature sounds.
