Day 1 for the Ebola virus disease helpline in the Capital was busy as it received 30 calls.

The control room with helpline numbers 23063205, 23061469 and 23061302 was made operational on Saturday morning at the Health Ministry.

“Most of the callers to the helpline reflected a mature understanding of the collective responsibility in times like this. They wanted to know details about the symptoms and preventive measures,” said Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.

India does not have any confirmed or even suspected Ebola virus affected person so far, claims the government.

The government has already started tracking passengers arriving from the affected countries; tracking and monitoring health of passengers who travelled from the affected countries in their respective states by the Integrated disease surveillance programme and designated RML Hospital for management of cases in Delhi.

The government has also advised Indians against non-essential travelling to the four West African countries of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria that form the epicenter of Ebola.
