Barely a few hours before the EC press conference in Delhi on BJP leaders’ allegation of bias, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, too, challenged the commission.

“I dare the EC to impose a ban on me,” Yadav said at an election rally in Ballia on Thursday.

Campaigning for his candidate, Neeraj Shekhar, son of the late prime minister Chandra Shekhar, Mulayam said, “The EC banned both SP leader Azam Khan and BJP leader Amit Shah on the same day. While the ban on Azam Khan continues, the one on Amit Shah was revoked.”

Challenging the commission, Mulayam said, “Azam was banned because he spoke for Muslims. I too speak for Muslims every day. If the commission has guts, it should ban me as well.”

The SP chief said, “The recommendations of the Sachchar Committee for improving the lives of Muslims will be implemented as soon as the Third Front assumes charge in Delhi.”

“The reports that we are getting indicate that in most of the states, neither the Congress nor the BJP are winning. The Third Front constituents are winning those states,” Yadav said.
