Taking note of reports of alleged distribution of cash at a Holi programme in Saifai in the presence of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Election Commission on Thursday sought a report from the district magistrate.
"We have sought a report from the district magistrate in this regard", Chief Electoral Officer, A K Bishnoi told PTI in Lucknow.
The news regarding distribution of money at a "Holi Milan" programme in Mulayam Singh Yadav's native Saifai in Etawah district was aired by some news channels.
Some persons, allegedly SP workers, were shown distributing Rs 100 notes to the people at the programme.
Alleging that both SP and BSP were flouting the model code of conduct, BJP state Vice President Hriday Narain Dixit said his party would register a formal compaint in this matter with the EC.
"Yadav is habitual offender of model code of conduct and the Commission should immediately take action against him. The way in which money is openly distributed in his presence at Safai should not be tolerated", Dixit alleged.
He added that the video of the programme was available and Commission could easily verfiy the facts.
