Union minister for railway Lalu Prasad Yadav predicted that a secular government will be formed in UP after election. He hinted at post poll alliance for the formation of a Congress led government. He, however, clarified that no alliance will be sought with the BJP and SP.
Lalu Yadav was to address public meetings in favour of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidates in Maharajganj district. While talking to mediapersons he expressed his concern over low percentage of voting in five phases of polling. He suggested that Election Commission should launch door-to-door polling programme to increase the percentage of voting.
He also said that there were several irregularities in voters' list and election ID cards issued to the people in this election. He also said the voting process system was very lengthy with one voter taking approximately five minutes in casting his vote due to various verification process and asked for reform in this process.
Launching his offensive against BJP, Yadav said had the saffron party been in power then the railway department would have been handed over to private agencies.
He categorically denied charges that railway ministry was ignoring UP and said in the current railway budget Rs 8000 crore was allocated for UP. He also said many trains had been started from Gorakhpur and modification of the railway stations and electrification of railway tracks from Barabanki to Barauni was in progress.
