Alleging that the Election Commission (EC) was biased against her, danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as an independent from Gandhinagar, on Sunday said that she was being watched like a hawk by the EC officials.
“Being an independent candidate everything is against us. The EC is against us. Every time I open my mouth I am told that I am breaking the code of conduct,” Sarabhai alleged on the sidelines of a function organised by her supporters in Ahmedabad.
“They (EC) are watching me like a hawk. The other day when I was going door-to-door in Sabarmati (part of her constituency), a couple of EC officials came there and told me that I should stop as I did not have permission to go door-to-door,” she said.
“The big political parties (BJP and Congress) are breaking the code of conduct everyday but nothing is done to them. Why are the rules different for them and us? It should be the same. They (EC) are acting in a biased manner,” Sarabhai, who will be fighting LK Advani, said.
“The other day some election officials came to my office to see the cartoons of Advani that we have made. My photographer took their picture, to which they objected. I tried to tell them that we take pictures of all who come to the office. But they left saying that they will see us...it was not a good tone,” she said.
