A month's salary of a zonal education officer (ZEO) and 11 teachers of government schools in Mahore tehsil, Reasi, has been withheld after it was found that three government schools in the district had been closed on working days.

The action has been taken on the basis of a monthly report - named as the results framework document - submitted by the sarpanch of a village in Mahroe.

Reasi deputy commissioner (DC) Iqbal Choudhary confirmed this: “Many schools were found closed on working days last month; it was also found that a ZEO and 11 teachers were missing from duty.”

The DC has now directed the chief education officer of Reasi to conduct an inquiry into the matter. “The ZEO has been directed to explain reasons for his failure to ensure attendance at schools,” the DC said.

The salaries have been withheld as a warning measure. “Strict action would be taken against the employees if the violations are repeated,” the DC said.

The DC, however, refrained from naming the schools, teachers, or the ZEO. He added that the case file had been sent to the chief education officer.
