Egyptian driver acquitted of Indian's death

india Updated: Jun 21, 2008 14:41 IST

The Dubai Court of Appeal cleared the 25-year-old Egyptian woman and held the deceased, an Indian man, responsible for his own death as he crossed the road at an undesignated place.

"The flight attendant is innocent and the victim is the one who caused the accident. There was 90 mg/dl alcohol in his blood," the woman's lawyers told the Appeals Court.

The Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution had charged the woman with driving recklessly and accidentally killing the victim, NS, after she ran over him. Her car windows had 63 per cent tinting, Gulf News said.

The Dubai Traffic Court of First Instance earlier fined her $136 for exceeding the window tinting percentage and acquitted her of accidentally killing NS.

Presiding Judge Mustafa Al Shennawi decided that the woman was not liable for the accident.
