PRESIDENT OF Electricity Safety Directorate (ESD) Employees’ Union Surendra Srivastava had shot junior engineer (JE) Jagdish Prasad following a heated exchange on Thursday.
In a sudden provocation, Srivastava opened fire with his licensed revolver.
The cops arrested seven ESD employees, including the assistant director and a relative of Surendra Srivastava. Srivastava, however, was yet to be traced. The weapons used in the crime and two other firearms were seized from the union office at the premises.
Significantly, all the ESD officials, including the senior ones tried to conceal the crime in an attempt to save the assailant. Not only the ESD staff but a doctor in KGMU too helped the killer by delaying the process of information to the police from the Trauma centre.
The mystery behind the shootout was laid bare following a rigorous interrogation of the ESD officials in the presence of senior cops in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. It was the watchman Yam Prasad Bhusal and the assistant director Shishir Srivastava who first surrendered before the police and revealed the sequence of event. It was revealed that ESD junior engineer SK Srivastava had thrown a party to celebrate selection of his son in an institute on Wednesday evening at the office hall. The employees including Shishir, Surendra Srivastava and Jagdish Prasad were present in the party. While having liquor Surendra and Jagdish entered in a verbal dual over intimacy of a lady colleague with Surendra.
As the heated exchange turned violent Surendra whipped out his .32 bore revolver and opened fire at Prasad. He died on the spot. Stunned over the development, the revelers took Prasad in Shishir’s car to the KGMU. As the victim was declared brought dead, they brought the body back to the office.
Later, the body was left at the mortuary by the ESD staff after director VK Khanna snubbed them.
The cops arrested Shishir, Annulal (steno), SK Srivastava (JE), Ram Kishore (JE), Sonilal (peon), Bhusal (watchman), Pawan Gaur (clerk) and Surendra’s relative Pankaj Saxena. Surendra had left his revolver with Saxena after the incident.
