Eight people were killed and around 22 were injured in bombings in two separate areas in Baghdad on Sunday.
Six were killed when a parcel blew up in a market area and two died when a bomb went off in a minibus in the east of the capital, police said.
A former military officer, meanwhile, was gunned down outside his home in Mosul, 360 km northwest of Baghdad, according to police Col Abdul-Karim Ahmed.
In a separate incident, 16 workers were kidnapped in Taji as they were moving furniture into the Technology Research Centre.
At least 80 people were kidnapped in the same region last week, about 50 of whom have since been freed by police or released by the kidnappers.
