Eight killed in insurgency-related incidents in Manipur

Eight persons were killed in various insurgency-related incidents in Manipur, official sources said on Thursday.

Two persons were shot dead and militants injured another this morning at the high security Andro Parking area in the heart of Imphal town.

Factional fight within a militant outfit appeared to be the cause of the incident, the sources said.

The injured was taken to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital (RIMSH) where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

An unidentified militant was also killed on Thursday in an encounter with a combined force of Assam Rifles and police commandos at Kongpal area in Imphal East district.

In an incident late on Wednesday night, three persons were shot dead by unidentified militants at Meitram Awang Leikai area under Nambol police station in Bishenpur district, the sources said.

Police commandos also gunned down two suspected militants of Kangleipak Communist Party at Lamdeng area in Imphal West district on Wednesday, sources said.
