The Thane police have solved the mystery of the murder of the woman whose body was found in an empty rake at the Kalwa car-shed, more than a month ago.

Eight persons have been arrested in connection with the murder so far and the police have also found that the woman, in her twenties, was gang-raped and then stabbed to death.

However, the police have been unable to identify the woman.

The police have arrested Mohammed Sajid, 28, Mohammed Sheikh alias Bihari, 35, Aalam Khan, 32, Amitkumar Bagde alias Golu,20, Babu Sheikh, 28, Monir Sheikh, 22, Mahmad Sheikh, 28 and Sanjay Kathe, 22.

"The accused are friends. On June 17 they met at Mafatlal Compound. One of the accused - Bihari -knew the deceased and asked her to come to the Kalwa railway station," said deputy commissioner of police Anil Tamaichekar. "Bihari then took her to a room at the nearby Mafatlal company and she was gang-raped by the accused. When she threatened to file a police complaint, they stabbed her to death," said Tamekar.

The accused then put her body in a sack and took it to the Kalwa railway crossing. They dumped it in an empty local train from Kalyan, which was on its way to the Kalwa car-shed at around 11.20pm.

The murder weapon is yet to be recovered.
