india Updated: Nov 27, 2006 20:55 IST

BHIND POLICE on Saturday rescued a villager from the gang of Rakesh, Bansi and Prahlad Gurjar after a shootout at Kachpura village in Ater Tahsil. Kriparam Dhakad (70), was rescued following a gun battle between police and the dacoits on Saturday night.

Tipped off that dacoits were hiding in Kachpura village, police surrounded the area. When challenged, the dacoits opened fire forcing the police to return the fire in self-defence. As the bandits fled from the spot in a hurry, they left Kriparam behind.

Bhind ASP Manoj Singh informed that Kriparam had been kidnapped from Noorabad on October 3 by Sultan Singh and was later sold to Rakesh Gurjar gang for Rs 5 lakh. Gurjar gang had demanded ransom of Rs 15 lakh from the family of Kriparm.

Rakesh and Bansi Gurjar are wanted for several crimes and carry rewards of Rs 15,000 each on their heads, Singh said. Police teams have been despatched into the ravines to trace the gang, he added.

In another case a businessman, identified as Bholu Pal, was shot dead in Gwalior on Sunday morning.
